1029A

The extremely compact 1029A is a powerful bi-amplified nearfield monitor system ideal for project and home studios, digital workstations, and surround sound monitoring. The monitor has a very rugged cast aluminium construction and magnetic stray field shielding as default for every single unit.

The System

- Bi-amplified active monitor system

- Performance of much larger systems (110 dB SPL at 1 meter for a pair)

- Vented enclosure contains an active electronic crossover, overload protection circuitry and two power amplifiers, one for each driver

- Compact size

- Genelec's unique Directivity Control Waveguide™ (DCW™) for excellent stereo imaging and frequency balance, even in difficult acoustic environments

- Versatile room response controls allow matching of the system to its surroundings

- Sufficient LF extension (-3dB at 68Hz) for most applications. If very large sound level and low cutoff frequency are required it can be complemented with the 1091A subwoofer (-3dB at 40Hz)

- Near field monitoring, mobile vans, home studios, multimedia and home theatres

- The speakers may be used in vertical or horizontal orientations

Integrated Construction

As the amplifiers are enclosed within the cabinet, the only connections required are the mains supply and the line level input. This makes the 1029A very easy to set up and use. The integrated design allows the amplifiers and the drivers to be calibrated as a single unit, eliminating the effects of component tolerances and ensuring consistent quality. The rugged cast aluminum cabinet has rounded corners and a hard-wearing painted outer surface.

Crossover Filter

The amplifier unit contains an active crossover, a feature more commonly used in large and expensive control room monitors. This is the ideal method for dividing the input signal between the driver units. The active crossover allows the overall response of the system to be optimized to an extent impossible with a passive system. To maintain uniform frequency balance in differing acoustic environments, special calibrated controls are included in the active crossover network. These controls include treble 'tilt', bass 'tilt' and bass 'roll-off' switches.

Amplifiers

The bass and treble amplifiers produce 40 W of output power each, with very low THD and IM distortion values. The amplifiers are designed to ensure the highest subjective sound quality currently possible. The amplifier unit also contains a protection circuit that monitors the output levels and prevents any damage to the drivers. This makes the system immune to overloads and spurious signals.

Drivers

High frequencies are radiated by a 19 mm (3/4") metal dome tweeter is loaded by a Directivity Control Waveguide™ (DCW™). The DCW is integrated into the one piece cabinet front baffle. The 130 mm (5") woofer is a cone driver mounted in a 4.5 litre vented cabinet. The -3 dB frequency of the system is 68 Hz, and useful low frequency response extends down to 65 Hz (-6dB). Protective grills are positioned in front of both drivers. Magnetic shielding is installed as a standard making 1029A the right choise for applications where stray magnetic fields must be minimized, for example video post production.

1030A

This very compact broadband system is ideal for nearfield monitoring, broadcast monitoring, TV control rooms, mobile vans, video post production or where space is very limited in project and home studios, digital workstations, and surround sound monitoring.

Everything is built into the speaker enclosure. The only connections required are the mains supply and the line level input signal. This ensures consistent audio quality.

An increasingly popular application of the bi-amplified systems is surround sound reproduction. Building a full-fledged surround system with Genelec monitors is extremely simple.

Features

- Frequency response: 52 - 20k Hz (-3 dB)

- 115 dB SPL (peak) per pair @ 1m with music material

- 170 mm (6 1/2") high efficiency polymer composite cone driver

- 19 mm (3/4") metal dome tweeter loaded with proprietary Directivity Control Waveguide™ (DCW™)

- 6.5 litre vented cabinet

- Bi-amplified: 80 W, 50 W

- Electronic crossover and protection circuitry

- Built in bass roll-off, treble and bass tilt controls

1091A active subwoofer

Genelec's active subwoofers are powerful low frequency loudspeakers, incorporating all the amplifier and crossover electronics needed to combine them with other loudspeakers amplifiers and signal sources.

The amplifier unit integrated into the cabinet contains active crossover filters, driver overload protection circuits and a power amplifier.

The crossover has 3 full bandwidth input signal channels, and a separate 'Low Frequency Effects' channel providing great flexibility and allowing easy connection to existing monitor systems, whether one, two or three channel, or to proprietary matrixed and discrete surround sound decoders.

System

The Genelec 1091A active subwoofer incorporates the amplifier and all crossover electronics needed to combine it with the 1029A loudspeakers. It reproduces frequencies 38 - 85 Hz (± 2.5 dB), and the sonic quality is maintained by a steep crossover filter (24 dB/octave). The subwoofer has two input connectors and adjustable sensitivity.

Amplifer

The amplifier unit, integrated into the cabinet, consists of the active crossover filter, driver overload protection circuits and a power amplifier. The amplifier produces 70 W of output power, with very low THD and IM distortion. It is mounted on thick aluminium with excellent heat dissipation. Driver overload protection, power-on signal muting, thermal overload and short circuit protection are included in the amplifier circuitry.

Driver

The 1091A has one 210 mm (8") cone driver, capable of producing high SPL's. The driver is housed in a 15 litre vented cabinet. It is specially front loaded to improve both the passband efficiency and stopband rejection.

Integrated Construction

The combination of the cabinet and amplifier in one unit results in a robust and simple system. The amplifier is mounted on pivoting vibration absorbers, which prevent damage to the electronics and ensures easy access and maintenance of the amplifier. The cabinet is made from MDF with rounded corners and hard-wearing textured black surface. The drivers are concealed inside a front loading acoustical tunnel, which also protects them from physical damage.
